Darcy James Argue's Secret Society

AKA:
Darcy James Argue
AKA:
Secret Society
Description:

Darcy James Argue's Secret Society is my favorite big band, whether or not you want to call the jazz. Their "steampunk big band" style combines elements of jazz, indie rock, and post-minimalist music to create something very compelling. Also, composer and band leader Darcy James Argue is a big ol' geek.

John McDonald

Description:

John was my advisor in composition at Tufts University. He's an excellent teacher, a versatile pianist, and a prolific composer.

Jonathan Coulton

Description:

JoCo says, "I'm a musican, a singer-songwriter, and an internet superstar." His quirky songs are an excellent snapshot of geek sensibilities, distilled into three-minute nuggets. He quit his job as a computer programmer to pursue a full-time music career, and he is a model for my own venture into the business of making music. Plus, I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy his songs.

Kyle Gann

Description:

The personal website of Kyle Gann, also the author of the Postclassic blog. In addition to a wide selection of scores and recordings from his catalog, Kyle offers some excellent resources on alternate tunings, as well as the music of Conlon Nancarrow.
