Mini Rows Garden #1

Variety grid puzzle. Acknowledgements to Patrick Berry.

Well, well, well, this week's puzzle is a bit late. Why, do you ask? Well, something to do with the second answer in Row D of the puzzle. But to be more up front about it, you should seriously check out Foggy Brume's latest creation. Get a team together and sign up. Foggy is a great constructor, and I have had a blast working my way through his puzzles.

Rows Garden #3

Today's puzzle is a Rows Garden. They seem to be getting easier to write with practice, and I've been able to cut down on clunky entries at the same time. I didn't have time to make a solution grid, however; I might go back and fix that later. Enjoy the puzzle.

A Child's Garden

Variety grid puzzle/cryptic. Acknowledgements to Patrick Berry.

This puzzle was written on the heels of an announcement from my friends Martha and Kyle Ingols (42itous and not here in the National Puzzlers' League) way back in February. I first gave the puzzle to them, to be shared with their friends and family, and Martha's father Dick Plotz (aka Geneal) suggested I write a version with cryptic clues that could go in the Enigma. It took me a little while to "cryptify" the puzzle, but eventually it came together, and the puzzle appeared in this month's edition of the Enigma.

Rows Garden #2

Here's a puzzle I had lined up before my winter hiatus. Given how difficult Rows Garden puzzles are for me to write, I'm pretty happy with this one. I'm a bit disappointed that I had to resort to a pluralized surname in one of the Bloom entries, but the alternative would have necessitated a clue starting with "type of fortification," and that's never a good sign. Maybe next time I'll get those little wrinkles ironed out. Acknowledgements to Patrick Berry for the puzzle type.

This one took me quite a while to put together, let me tell you. I just gained a lot more respect for the people who make Rows Garden puzzles on a regular basis, especially Patrick Berry, who invented the type, and Andrew Ries, who manages to put out a new one every week. I'm sure they get easier with practice, but this was more work than a Some Assembly Required, and that's saying something. I'll post a solution once I get that formatted to my satisfaction, but I figured I should get the puzzle up while I have it.
